Commitment
Volunteers will be asked to attend a two meetings via zoom prior to the ceremonies. We will also be asking volunteers to commit to five hours shifts, either in the morning, afternoon or evening.
Volunteer Lead Opportunities
There is also limited opportunities for volunteer leads - if you have time leading up to the event, and are available throughout the weekend, there is an option in the sign up sheet.
Volunteer Areas
Set up and Take Down
We are looking for people to support the set up and take down of the ceremony area. This would be on Thursday September 28th and early Friday September 29th, 2023, as well as Sunday October 1 until the late afternoon. They will be working outside, carrying items 30 - 50lbs.
Welcome Area
We are looking for people to welcome those coming into the ceremony. They will be sharing information about the three days, answering questions about the activities and ensuring people feel welcome.
Food and Beverage
We are looking for people to support the caterers, who will be coming in with food and beverages throughout the day. They will need to be cleaning off food and beverage area, helping caterers set up and take down their food dishes.
Elders Area
We are looking for people to support Elders who are coming into the ceremonies. They may need support finding a seat, finding their way to the rest area, getting food and/or beverages, finding other types of supports.
Rest Area
We are looking for people to support the rest area space. This is a quiet space for Elders or residential school survivors, their families to find a quiet space if they are feeling overwhelmed or need space to meditate, pray or relax. It would mean making sure people have a comfortable seat, water or food if needed, access to support, or sitting with them.
Clean Up
We are looking for support to keep the space clean. We will have garbage, recycling and compost available, but need support keeping the space clean and tidy. It would mean walking the grounds, picking up garbage, recyling and compost, and disposing of properly. It would mean emptying cans in appropriate space.
Security
We are looking for support to keep the space safe. This will mean walking the grounds, and being available if someone needs support, being aware of safety concerns and reporting them to team.
Event Support
We are looking for general event support. If you are interested in supporting in all areas, and have experience with event management, co-ordination or assistance, please sign up.
